Hi there! I’m Rachael, the oft-irreverent voice of, well, the Irreverent Crafter. Why irreverent, you may ask? After all, I appear to be a fairly responsible, grown-up-like person, but look a little closer. Way too often, I see humor where I probably shouldn’t. Maybe due to awkwardness or nervousness, I laugh in inappropriate situations and I say things that probably shouldn’t be said out loud. Plus, I’m a former sailor which means that things like cursing (for sure) and cocktails (a little) probably play a bit more prominently in my life than that of the average crafter, or girl for that matter. Although I’m not really a prolific curser or an excessive drinker, both activities seem to go hand in hand with me and crafting. I mean crafting soothes my soul, but it can also rip out my heart. And when it does, I’d like a drink and I’ll let loose a machine gun-like barrage of profanity. Then, all is right in the world again.
Seriously, though, I am passionate about crafting. It’s creative, practical, celebratory and even philanthropic. I love creating beautiful things that are useful in my home and (hopefully) welcomed gifts to friends and family. I’m thrilled by the camaraderie of learning, teaching and creating with other makers. I’m still amazed (and grateful) that there are people out there who will actually give me their hard-earned money and put my stuff in their own homes or give my stuff as gifts. (And I take the trust they place in me for that privilege very seriously.) But, most importantly, I’m humbled that I can share this gift to possibly make someone’s life just a little better. Whether my creations are used in raffles and fundraising or given to help someone who’s in need or going through a tough time, I’m eternally grateful to be in a position to help.
So, grab a drink and join me. I’ll tell you some stories if you want to hear them. I’ll teach you some of the crafty stuff I’ve learned if you want to learn stuff. I’ll show you where to buy some cute things if you want to go shopping. And I promise to keep the cursing to a minimum. Maybe.
Irreverently yours…
Rachael
